Ken Kutaragi Plots PSP Future

Here is all of the summaries from Tokyo Developer Conference, Ken Kutaragi (beside of primary discussion about PS3), talked the future of PSP. Some additional accessories, firmware update and features and price reduction.

1. Price Reduction, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced new price of PSP at $199.99 (previously $249). However the package will only contain AC Adaptor and Battery (much like the Core Pack instead of Value Pack), so you won’t find the 32MB Memory Stick Pro Duo, the pouch/softcase, remote control or headphones in this new package. This price cut will be applied as of March 22. Europe will have their price cut at 199 euro.

2. PSP owners will be able to play PS1 games using an emulator developed by Sony, so it will be legal. The games will be distributed digitally or in other word, it’s downloadable. However I’m personally not sure about this idea, how if the game is using the L2 and R2 button? or the right analog stick?

3. The will be an add-on camera accessory, coded as PSP-300, and in October PSP will support Video/Voice Communication over IP using a format called “Motion JPEG”. It will also open the possibility of EyeToy like games which will be released in September.

4. Another new accessory is PSP-290 GPS receiver, it will enable portable navigation software and other potential applications (although still not clear what it is). SCE also told that a game called “Hot Shot Golf with GPS” is being developed (still not clear how to play it using GPS).

5. The last one is confirming the previous rumors that PSP will be able to play games made with Macromedia Flash. It will also support RSS feeds later of this year to enable playback and save internet radio and entetainment movies, it’s not closing the chance to get podcast or video subscription for auto downloading.

So, let’s wait for this new breeze from Sony :)
